Embracing Our Future

Embracing Our Future!house

In September 2007 our church began a building fund campaign to expand our current facilities. Our campaign theme is “Cherishing Our Heritage…Embracing Our Future!”

With fond appreciation, we cherish the incredible sacrifice of the generations before us. Through their commitment and sacrifice, they planted, built, and prepared the church we now enjoy. We cherish this heritage! Likewise, we also understand that we cannot relish in yesterday’s victories forever. We must also embrace our future! We believe that God has even greater things in store for us. Just as the generations before us made sacrifices, we are now prepared to make the necessary sacrifices to embrace our future.

After making our step of faith, God opened the doors for us to purchase the adjacent lot. Complete with a home and much needed real estate, this property is a true God send! We are now set to sign papers in June and officially become the single owners of 671 Waianuenue Avenue!

We have been able to renovate the lower portion of this new addition we have created a cutting-edge, yet practical children’s and youth ministry center. LifeHouse, as it is affectionately known, contains both a game and ministry area, as well as a snack bar.

Our goal is to cancel the debt in 5-7 years. At that time we will pursue the possibilities of constructing a new sanctuary and ministry area.

We are excited to see ALL that God has for us! So, pray for  and join us as we Embrace Our Future!

What We Believe

What we Believe

  • In the verbal inspiration of the Bible
  • In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
  • That Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended into heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
  • That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.
  • That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
  • In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.
  • Holiness to be God’s standard of living for his people
  • In the baptism to the Holy Ghost in subsequent to a clean heart
  • In speaking with other tongues as the spirit gives utterance and that this is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
  • In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
  • Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement .
  • In the Lord’s supper and washing of the saint’s feet.
  • In the premillennial second coming of Jesus. First to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.
  • In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.

EasterPastor Allen Townsend, was born and raised on a farm in rural Northern Florida. On February 4th of 1996, he was saved and felt the call of ministry. In February of 1997, he moved to Cleveland, Tennessee to begin his dream of studying at Lee University. He graduated from the External Studies Department in December 2000 with a Bachelors degree in Christian Ministry with an emphasis in Pastoral Ministries. During that time he had the privilege of working with Rev. Robert Green at the Westmore Church of God under leadership of Dr. David Bishop and Rev. Kelvin Page. Pastor Allen moved to Hilo on July 3rd, 2001 to work with Pastor Bishop as the youth pastor for the Hilo Church of God. Later he was blessed to be able to serve under Pastor James Dill. However, on Father’s Day 2003, Pastor Allen became the Senior Pastor of the Hilo Church of God and has served in that position until the present. He also served as the Hawaii State Youth & Christian Education Director from 2002-2010. His heart’s desire is that every person truly “Experience The Difference!” that is found in Christ Jesus.

Julie Townsend was born and raised in Tyler, Texas. Julie is a graduate of Lee University. While working on her RN degree in Tyler, TX., Julie was given the opportunity to volunteer on the staff at the Hilo Church of God under Pastor James Dill. She arrived in January of 2003. Julie assisted with the youth ministry, and when Pastor Allen became Senior Pastor, she took over as youth director. She and Pastor Allen were married in July of 2004.

Pastor Allen and Julie have two children, Wisdom and Addison.

Beware of the Dogs!

Text: Philippians 3:2-11
Title: Beware of the Dogs!

Thoughts:

I suppose I captured a bit of the essence of Paul’s words in Philippians 3 a few weeks ago when I ministered from it. But to say that I really understood the weight of Paul’s statements would be a severe mistruth. As most of you have heard and read, I have really struggled with the death of my grandmother and her salvation. In her confession, she was ready to meet Jesus. In the category of her works, doubt looms within me.

Providentially, God set me up. He knew the words of Paul would have greater impact in light of my own personal struggle with the text. And, impacting it is.

Warning the Philippians of the “dogs….the evil workers…the false circumcision”, Paul’s reference was to a group that were requiring more thanfaith. Meaning, faith wasn’t enoughMore was required of the Gentile Christians. In order for them to become full Christians they must adhere to the principles of Jewish Law, namely circumcision. Such an issue was intensely debated and settled by the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15. Indeed, God was saving and filling with the Holy Spirit these Gentiles who were uncircumcised and outside the Law of Moses.

Perhaps, Peter’s testimony, coupled with Paul’s words in Philippians 3, will remind us of what is truly necessary for one to be saved. Peter says,

And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.” (Acts 15:8-9)

He adds,

Now therefore why do you put God to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? (Acts 15:10)

Certainly, this is a question that deserves a critical response from each of us. What parameters, guidelines, and yokes are we licensed to place upon another, when, in fact, we have been unable to procure them ourselves? Paul addresses this issue head on in the following verses. Indeed, it is neither his heritage, nor Law abiding ways that have procured salvation for him. The righteousness he knew “…is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith.” (Phil. 3:9)

Let us bewarelest we, as people, begin to require more than God Himself. Our salvation is through faith!

Application:

Have you ever been guilty of making salvation more than faith?

How much is truly required of us to enter into heaven?

Do you really believe  your answer?

Prayer:

Father,

Thank You for the releasing from us the weight of the Law. None, other than Christ, has been able to fulfill Your perfect Law. Nevertheless, You do not require us to fulfill the works of the Law, for You know we were incapable. Today, You merely require faith in Your Son Jesus Christ. Every fiber of my being says, “There should be more!” But You have repeatedly stated, “It is by faith”. Free me from the burden to place yokes upon myself and othersTeach me to embrace faith and faith alone!

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
